The Motorpress International publishing consortium
begins its existence in Stuttgart (Germany) more than fifty years
ago with the publishing of Auto Motor und Sport (AMS), a magazine
that has become a worldwide model of what an objective, rigorous,
professional and independent publication should be in the automobile
sector. It is fair to say that all European publications regarding
cars published after Auto Motor und Sport have either belonged to
the AMS publishing consortium or have inspired themselves in this
publication in order to develop.
Currently, the Motorpress International publishing consortium cashes
in more than 50 billion pesetas (300.000 million euros) per year,
has over 1,600 workers and publishes more than 150 specialized publications
and catalogs in a total of 15 countries. Its publishing leadership
in Europe is unquestionable. Among its most charismatic magazines,
it is worth mentioning (in addition to Auto Motor und Sport) Motorrad,
Auto and Mot, in Germany; Auto Illustrierte and Motor Sport Aktuell,
in Switzerland, and L'Automobile, Moto Journal, and Top's Cars in
France.
The headquarters of the German publishing consortium Motorpress
International (MPI) is found in Stuttgat, but it has three more
operations centers: Madrid, Paris and Budapest. The goal of the
publishing group, after the rapid growth and the positive results
experienced in the last few years, is to decentralize and optimize
management, while at the same time carrying out more group and synergy
strategies.
However, internationality implies identity and cooperation: the
goal is to use the international publishing base to create maximum
quality publications with a strong identity.
MPI's international expansion began in 1975. After the first implantation
in Switzerland, Motor-Presse establishes itself in Spain in 1979
and in France in 1983, creating the base of what would become Motorpress
International. Today, the publishing group operates in the whole
world through an organization system by geographic sectors: Germany,
Western Sector, Southwestern Sector, and Eastern Sector.
In the German sector, the headquarters are found in Stuttgart.
From there, in addition to supervising all Motorpress International
operations, all Swiss and German companies are managed.
The headquarters of the Western Sector are located in Paris.
They have responsibility over the following French companies: S.E.T.T.F
(Societé des Éditions Techniques et Touristiques de
France) and Édirégle. Some of the most prestigious
automotive magazines in France belong to these two companies, including
Tops Cars, Tout Terrain Magazine, Moto Journal,
Moto Crampons, Camping Car, and Le Caravanier,
but most importantly, LAutomobile Magazine (monthly
magazine created in 1946).
As for the Eastern Sector headquarters, they are found in
Budapest and they are headed by Dietmar Metzger. Companies from
Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland and Romania are managed
from the Hungarian capital. Its most reputed magazines include Autó
Magazin, Autópiac and Motor Revü in
Hungary; Auto Magazin and Motocykl, in the Czech Republic;
Auto in Slovakia; Auto motor i sport and Motocykl,
in Poland; Auto pro and Auto Plata in Romania.
Finally, the Southwestern Sector has Motorpress-Ibérica
as the head manager for all the companies in the sector, which is
composed of the Iberian Peninsula, Mexico, Argentina and Brazil.
